Hi,
Spring is coming, and with it, many buggies will begin to visit my backyard. I hope to see lots of tiny Chicago creatures, and put my macros to work :)
While I wait, I decided to make a post about the Phoneutria sp. spiders again because, well, they’re awesome.
Armadeira is the common name of the Phoneutria [...]

This happy looking spider is one of the many in the Lycosidae family, also known as wolf spiders, or how we call them in Brazil, grass spiders.
This one is sometimes confused with the dangerous Phoneutria, the wandering spiders, because they also have red chelicerae, but they are not nearly as dangerous.

As you may have guessed, this is my favorite spider.
I took this picture in Sao Paulo, Brazil, inside my bedroom.
If you have any doubts about rather a spider you came across is a Phoneutria, the doubts go away once you try to get close to it. They are extremely aggressive.
